This week’s question
I have been driving by your office on Camden for about 15 years now. Our home is nearby. I was wondering just how long you have had your law office there and how did that come about.
You have emailed in a very timely question. It just so happens that in June of this year we are quietly noting 25 years at this office location and also 25 years of writing columns for the Almaden Times
We moved into this office when the building was new about June 1, 1986. I had seen the sign go up in a grassy field (well, ok, weedy field) in 1985 that said “NEW OFFICE BUILDING COMING SOON”.
My office had been at Vallco Park Financial Center in Cupertino at the time. We talked it over at home and decided to make the major change.
I tracked down the real estate agent and we worked out a lease and the rest is history. As it turned out, I was the first tenant in the two buildings here, one with the 6475 Camden Address and the second one adjoining at 6489 Camden.
It seemed to me that the Almaden Valley would be a great place to have a law office, with outstanding clients nearby who just might need legal services. Our family’s home has been off Redmond since 1970 and we just love the Almaden Valley. And a 1.3 mile commute from home to office was very inviting!
At about this same time, June 1, 1986, I learned that a new community newspaper was being established called The Almaden Times. I was asked to write a column on legal topics, and, once again, the rest is history. At first, the newspaper was a monthly publication and then after a few years, it went to a publication schedule of two times per month.
One of the surprising aspects of this column is just how rapidly the next article is due. It is just amazing how fast time flies. My parents were absolutely right—the years go by faster as you get older.
Of course, there have been many changes along the way. For example, five years ago we in the Almaden Valley were fortunate to see our new Almaden Library and Community Center built, a center that is just incredible.
How long might this continue? That’s hard to say, but if all goes well, nine years from June 26 of this year I will observe another anniversary—fifty years of law practice.
